IFI Announces Adoption of the IFI Interiors Declaration By The City Of Kuala Lumpur

Kuala Lumpur, MY – 1 May 2014 – The International Federation of Architects/Interior Designers (IFI) along with the Malaysian Institute of Interior Designers (MIID) announce the official adoption of the IFI Interiors Declaration by the City of Kuala Lumpur, publicly endorsed today by the honorable Mayor of Kuala Lumpur, Mr. Datuk Seri Hj. Ahmad Phesal bin Hj. Talib and Shashi Caan, President of IFI. With the adoption, the City of Kuala Lumpur proclaims the recognition of interior architecture/design as a fundamental value and a driving force for the advancement of humanity.

The IFI Interiors’ Declaration, a consensus-based vision and mission statement for the Interiors discipline forms a unanimous agreement establishing the essential foundations and their advancement for Interior Architecture/Design worldwide. The ideas contained in the Declaration provide clear goals for and affect the fundamental understanding and shaping of the practice, its education and research, and for the outcomes required of our built environment in order to support humanity, society and culture.

On stage in the Plenary Theatre, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre, the members of the IFI Executive Board were joined by Mr. Ronnie Choong, President of MIID, and members of the MIID Council, who spearheaded this momentous occasion taking place during the REKA Design Conference (May 1-2) to be followed by the XXVI IFI General Assembly (May 3-4). As all in attendance vehemently agreed, this juncture is yet another significant advance toward continued advocacy for interior design and the stimulation of remarkably created spaces for all.

The recognition document of the adoption of the Declaration states; “Kuala Lumpur tends to be proficient at forming and presenting features of humanity and culture as well as creating supportive spaces. Their Interior architects/designers have unique design views of exchange, sharing of traditional and modern cultures as well as the integration of East and West design elements. International Federation of Interior Architects/Designers (IFI) has been a vital advocate for this industry, acting as a global forum for collaboration among professional interior architects and designers. Kuala Lumpur brings these leaders together with the events endorsed by City of Kuala Lumpur happening throughout the design industry.”

To celebrate this event, the city of Kuala Lumpur had the Declaration translated into the Malay language. It was officially translated by “Institut Terjemahan & Buku Malaysia” or in English, the Malaysian Institute of Translation & Books. The Declaration has thus far been translated into 10 languages around the globe.

Kuala Lumpur now joins global cities such as Montreal and New York in the adoption the IFI Interiors Declaration.
